Elisabetta Foradori has been a darling of the natural wine movement – a champion of Biodynamics more specifically – and a champion of Trentino for decades. ‘Sgarzon’ means ‘vine shoot’ in the local dialect. This production one of two single-vineyard Teroldego wines from Elisabetta Foradori. Sgarzon is harvested from cooler, sandier 2.5 hectares within the whole Foradori vineyard around the winery on the Campo Rotaliano plateau.Grapes are destemmed, with the fruit going directly into clay amphorae for an open-top fermentation without sulfur; the vessels are then closed for 6-8 months of maceration.
Aromas of dark-skinned berry, incense, tilled earth and Alpine herb followed by layers of black cherry, dark spice and mineral alongside silty tannins and fresh acidity. An elegant, perfumed, brooding red wine, with a color so dark as to be almost purple-black.
